The Cumming Playhouse Singers was organized in early 2006. The group is a mixed chorus that performs a variety of traditional choral music throughout the year. Selections for women’s and men’s choruses are included in their repertoire. Opportunities for solo and ensemble singing occur as well. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at the Playhouse. Membership in the group is by audition or by invitation of the director. VAN McCOLLUM, Director of Music

Mr. McCollum is Director of Music and Conductor of the Cumming Playhouse Singers. He has over 30 years of teaching experience at the secondary and college levels as a band director and choral director. He has also been active as a church organist and choir director. Mr. McCollum is a former director of the Gainesville Chorale. Mr. McCollum holds degrees in Church Music and Musicology from the University of Georgia and a Specialist in Music Education degree from Georgia State University. As a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the Georgia Music Educators Association, and the Music Educators National Conference, he is very active in state and district music activities, serving as a state adjudicator for GMEA and conductor and clinician for choral activities. His choral groups have received continuous superior ratings at district, national and international festivals which include a European tour and a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.

PATRICIA WESTER, Accompanist

A native of Cumming, Tricia has been involved in music all of her life. She attended the University of Georgia, earning a degree in Music Education. The teaching profession brought her back to Forsyth County where she taught general music, conducted choral ensembles and instrumental music. In 2001 she retired after thirty-one years of service. Tricia became pianist for Cumming United Methodist Church in 1986. She is a member of the Chancel Choir, The Chancel Handbells, the Recorder Consort, accompanist for Joyful Sound, director of the Cherub Choir, Beginners Recorder Choir, and Associate Music Director for the church. She has performed with the Alpharetta Chamber Singers and the local dulcimer group, Stummin’ in Cummin’. She has played horn with the local wind band, the Sounds of Sawnee, and the University of Georgia Alumni Marching Band. She was accompanist with the Cumming Chorale for 10 years and the Dawson County Community Chorale from 2004-2006. Tricia continually accompanies for area school’s choral programs, festivals, workshops, and recitals.
